The Spinosapper (スピノサパー) is a Spinosaurus-type of Zoid, one of over 200 species of biomechanical lifeforms depicted by TOMY's Zoids franchise.

Overview[]

The Spinosapper is somewhat different Zoid than many of its kind. Despite being based on a carnosaur, the Spinosapper was designed more for engineering[citation needed], hence its name—a sapper is a combat engineer. It is also referred to as Spinosnapper[9].

Battle Story Appearances[]

This section is about the events in Battle Story, which is primarily in Japanese. Information in this section may require additional citations.

Spinosappers make use of their laser chainsaws and excavators on construction projects and other odd jobs. However, just because they can be used for this does not mean that Spinosappers lack combat ability. During wartime Spinosappers were used to clear the way for more powerful Zoids like the Ultrasaurus and Gunbluster. In addition, while not an excessively powerful Zoid, the Spinosapper's path clearing equipment can be used as dangerous weapons, adding to its respectable arsenal.

Media Appearances[]

Anime[]

New Century[]

The Spinosapper appeared in episode 14, "Frightday the 13th". It was described as a phantom Zoid piloted by the "chainsaw man", who had supernatural powers. Eventually, it was revealed to be a team of bandits using Spinosappers. The Spinosappers in question were soundly beaten by Naomi Flugel and the Blitz Team. However, an extra Zoid was spotted during the battle, raising questions over the validity of the phantom Spinosapper (the real "chainsaw man") after all.

Several Spinosappers appear in later episodes, usually in minor roles as grunt Zoids. Some were also seen with Impact Cannons.

Models[]

Zoids (1999)[]

The Spinosapper was first released as part of the Zoids (1999) line. It is molded in white and brown with yellow caps and a single visor-like orange eye. Its main custom parts unit is the CP-18 Impact Cannons as seen in the anime.

Zoids: Build Customize Mobilize[]

The Spinosapper was released in North America as a part of the Zoids: Build Customize Mobilize under the name Spinosnapper. The Zoid was identical to the Japanese version, save for packaging. It was Hasbro-branded[9]. The international version was TOMY-branded.

Holotech[]

Holosapper

Holotech Spinosnapper

The Spinosapper was released as part of the Holotech line, though the kit proved rather rare, usually being found only in Australia, where it was released by TOMY[10]. It was recolored with clear forest green and orange replacing the white and silver weapon bits, though the other parts were left their original solid colors.

Trivia[]

  • The original wild species of Spinosapper and Dark Spiner is the same species.[11]
