The Griffin (グリフォン, Gurifōn) is a type of Zoid, a race of mechanical lifeforms from the fictional Zoids universe.
The Griffin is a Helic Republic Blox Zoid created via the fusion of the Buster Eagle with the Double Arms Lizards. It combines the Buster Eagle's mobility with the D.A. Lizards' durability, and can optionally mount the Republic's massive Buster Cannons to provide it with devastating firepower. However, the Zoid's mass increase over the Buster Eagle interferes with its flight, dropping its top speed and making it less effective as a true flier.
Despite seating up to three crew members, the Griffin can seemingly be operated by a single pilot. The disadvantages of such shorthanded operation, if any, are not known.
The Griffin appears in Zoids Legacy (Zoids Saga II); it can be formed during combat by combining a Buster Eagle with a "2-arm Lizard" using Deck Commands, or constructed as a single standalone Zoid. The Griffin is similarly available in Zoids Saga III and Saga DS. The Griffin does not have the Buster Cannons in the Saga games.
The Griffin also makes an appearance in Zoids Battle Legends (Zoids Vs II). It is piloted by Juno Hera in the Battle Mode, and becomes available to the Blue Unicorn team during their campaign. The Griffin also appears in Zoids Vs III. In the Vs games, the Griffin is equipped with the Buster Cannons along with the Buster Eagle's cockpit, which is not visible on the Saga sprite.
The Griffin received no model release, and no official instructions to build it exist. It is possible to approximate the design shown in the games using the Buster Eagle and Double Arms Lizards kits. (There are several design elements that cannot be replicated through this method; an example is the Nightwise chest component shown in the Saga sprite.)
Two fan-built examples of the Griffin are shown here. The one on the right of the picture is a version that uses the original releases of Buster Eagle and Double Arms Lizards. The one on the left uses the Fuzors Buster Eagle and the Shadow Arm Lizards. Both incorporate weapons not shown in the Griffin's canonical appearances.
