Bizarrely organic and glowing an eerie green—which, in some versions of the story, had a detrimental effect on vegetation and terrain—they were powered up by an ore called ''Deochalcum'' (possibly a play on [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orichalcum Orichalcum]).
